I used to really love books. I could quite happily spend a whole day reading a good book, letting the story and my imagination take me to faraway lands or ages past. I also enjoy browsing second hand bookshops which are just a treasure trove of all kinds of books. In the North East, the largest bookseller is Barter Books, and what a place that is! It sells so many books, fiction, children's books, classical books, books on cookery, photography, history, the arts, religion, humour, travel and so much more. They have armchairs and a log fire where you could just sit and lose yourself in a book for a while.
I had in mind to photograph some of the more interesting and older collections of books on the shelves. I was a bit nervous about taking photographs in a bookshop and did get a couple of curious looks. I also couldn't help but purchase a book or two whilst I was there!
At home I also had a go at various still life arrangements which included folded book art. Folding a book is not very difficult but it is very time consuming. The best instructions are found here http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Fold-a-Book-into-a-Word-The-original-tuto/
I also photographed myself holding some books which was quite tricky, to be both model and photographer at the same time.
I hope you enjoy the selection of photos I took for this challenge. Just click on the picture if you would like to see it enlarged.
And finally, I will leave you with a couple of quotes from two of my favourite of authors:
“The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.”
― Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey
“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”
― C.S. Lewis
